Video editing

Each video starts with an AI-generated draft that includes elements like text, audio, and visuals-tailored based on the input you provide. While this provides a quick starting point, it may not always be perfect, so you might want to make edits to better fit the tone, content, or accuracy of your article.

To edit a video, click on it to open the Video Details page. From there, scroll down and click the Edit revision button. When editing, you’ll encounter a few key terms and tools to help you customize the video effectively.

Revisions

Revisions are versions a VideoGenius video. Every video starts with an automated revision that is generated by the AI. You can have multiple revisions, and you can switch between them. New revision is created every time you click on the Edit revision button. Your newly created revision will be in the Draft state.

To preview and switch between revisions, click on the Revisions tab in the right sidebar. You will see a list of all revisions.

States

When done editing, you can click on the Save draft button to save the changes you’ve made. To initiate rendering, click the Render revision button. This will create a new revision that will be in the Processing state.

There are five states of the revision:

  • Processing - a video is being processed by the AI and Plainly.
  • Draft - a video is in draft state, and you can make changes to it.
  • Preview - a video is in preview state. The reason why the revision might ever be in the preview state is that a paid asset is being used in the revision. If you are satisfied with the preview, you can render the final video.
  • Final - a video is rendered and ready to be downloaded.
  • Error - something went wrong during the rendering process. You can try to render it again or edit the content and setup.

You can also adjust the following options:

  • General settings - settings that apply to the entire video, and consist out of Call to action and Logo URL.
  • Voiceover settings - settings that change the voiceover of the video.

Changes to general or voiceover settings will only apply to the current video and will not affect the overall video type.

Scenes

Each scene has a voiceover, assets, and on-screen text. The amount of scenes you will have in the video is based on the length of the article, and the maximum is determined by the user, when setting up the Scene management script.

You can navigate between scenes by clicking on the scene name in the right sidebar.

If you want to make a scene shorter, you can do that by removing parts of the voiceover. You can also completely delete scenes, duplicate and merge them.

The length of the scenes is determined by the voiceover script in that scene. To add pauses in the script, you can use pause markers [<number>s]. For example [3s] will add a 3 second pause in the script.

Voiceover

The voiceover script is the text that will be read by the AI voiceover. You can edit the script, add or remove parts of it, and even add pauses using the pause markers.

To change the voiceover settings in general, you can do that in the Voiceover settings tab in the right sidebar.

Assets

Assets are videos and/or images that are contained within the final video. Please note that these are not the graphical elements you have in your template, but rather dynamic videos and images that are replaced for each article.

In the automated revision, which is created by the AI the assets will be automatically picked from our partner stock asset marketplaces. In the editing phase, you can change these assets, and swap them with other assets from the marketplaces or even upload your own.

Each scene has one asset, to edit it, click on the Edit button on the asset preview. That will lead you to the asset selection screen where you can either search for new assets or add your own.

Headlines and subheadings

Headlines and subheadings are the on-screen text displayed in each scene. Headlines are required, while subheadings are optional and can be used to provide extra context or detail. The maximum number of headlines and subheadings per scene is determined by the user during the Scene management script setup.

Keep in mind that the maximum number of headlines must match the number of headline placeholders in your After Effects template to ensure everything renders correctly.

You can freely edit, add, or delete the headlines using the interface below.
